This area “the Soho of Barcelona” has become the popular hangout of designers and photographers and one of the trendiest districts of Barcelona. • Well-known brands at lower prices: Spain has become synonymous with the brands Mango and Zara so why not make the most of prices which are considerably lower than in countries like the UK, France and Germany? For the real bargain seekers head to the Mango outlet store on C/ Girona for rock bottom prices or one of several ‘Lefties’ stores which sells Zara seconds at even lower prices. If it’s a large indoor centre that you are seeking, take the number 15 bus down to the Maremagnum shopping centre located next to the Port Vell. The centre contains all the usual suspects: Mango, Zara, Stradivarius, Women’s Secret.

• Designer stores: those seeking the top labels and designers such as Chanel, Luis Vuitton and Burberry will enjoy the elegant stores on the Passeig de Gracia and Rambla de Catalunya.

• Local produce: for a taste of local, organic produce from Catalonia make your way to the Fira Artesana in Plaça de Pi which takes place every 1^st and 3^rd Friday and Saturday of the month, often to the accompaniment of tradition musicians
