For golf lovers planning to go on a city break in Barcelona, do not despair, you don't have to keep yourselves away from the clubs for long. Within a manageable radius of the city there is a wide range of clubs to suit all tastes and abilities including some of the best rated courses in Europe.
Sant Cugat is a picturesque 18 hole (+3) course only 12 km out of Barcelona in the well-heeled town of Sant Cugat del Valles. It is the oldest course in Catalonia and interesting it was built at the turn of the century by English workers constructing the St Cugat - Barcelona railway. Consequently the course boasts 'English-style' facilities and each hole is individually named. The course is only 5 minutes walk from the train station and well connected to a regular service from Plaça de Catalunya. Access by car is also straightforward: take the A7 motorway and the course is just of the road to L'Arrabassada. From your centrally located barcelona hotel you can be out of the city and onto the green within an hour.
Other highly rated courses include the PGA Catalunya, located between Barcelona and Girona in Caldes de Malavella. The green fees here are pretty high but there really is a reason why this course has been ranked amongst the top ten in Europe.
