With the start of the Barcelona World Race only days away, the eyes of the nautical world are once again on Barcelona. Professional participants in this two-member crew round the world race will travel a total of over 25,000 miles in an estimated 3 months in order to battle for the title. The programme of events leading up to the start of the race is as follows:
On Friday 9th November the official opening ceremony of the race will take place on the Moll de Fusta (near to Maremagnum). The presentation of the teams will then be followed by a show by the Catalan theatre group Fura dels Baus.
Sunday 11th November will be an exciting day of events down by the port, conmmencing with the boats leaving the pontoons at 10.00. The official start of the race is at 13.00, and visitors are recommended to head for the viewing stands along Port Olimpic and Barceloneta beach in order to get the best view.
In order to complement the event, the Barcelona International Boat Show is also taking place from 3th to 11th November from 10.00 til 20.00 every day. The entry price is 13 euros and is taking place in the Port Vell Marina and of coure the Fira de Barcelona Exhibition centre at L'Hospitalet de Llobregat. A shuttle bus is running between the two locations and also Barcelona airport for visitor convenience.
